In this body of work I continue my exploration of synthesis: bringing together many disparate elements to form a new whole. Marrying varied materials, ideas, images of the landscape around me, inspiration from writers, poets, musicians and artists, and thinking about the passage of time, is what motivates my endeavor.

My medium of choice is encaustic. Pigment is suspended in hot wax, and is applied in thin layers, each layer fused to the next with a torch. The torch becomes my brush. The encaustic process allows me to play with transparency, opacity, and is conducive to the addition of mixed materials. Look closely and you will find graphite, burned dress patterns, shellac, old shredded memories, ink and other elements in the work.
