Burning In

Encaustic is a unique form of painting using hot beeswax, pigment and fire. Layer upon layer of wax, mixed with meaningful objects are ‘burned’ into each other creating works with a depth of color, meaning, and texture that no other medium can convey. Each painting is a unique journey, beginning with a spark of inspiration, and evolving through the unpredictable interplay between the intense fire, molten wax, and found objects.

The raw materials are pigment, beeswax, fire, and materials I find that convey texture and meaning.

I paint with brushes and a blowtorch, adding layers upon layers of beeswax and objects, then ‘burning them in’ with heat.

I make art in order to reflect moments in the landscape that move me.

Each work is a journey evolved through how the beeswax, fire, and materials interact.
