Serendipity is powerful.  In February I read the groundbreaking novel Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi, and there I learned about the word liminal and the concept of liminality.  I was just beginning a new body of work for my scheduled show at Shari Brownfield Fine Art. There were inklings then that Covid 19 was about to change our lives.  In the ensuing months I have been working on the twenty-two paintings that make up this body of work.  Clearly our world has been thrown into a period of change and turmoil we have not seen since the 1960s, and perhaps not even then.    I have been, like most, deeply affected by all of it.   

Interwoven throughout these months was the knowledge that we are living through a time of monumental change, a time of liminality.  The emotions I have felt and are feeling are shared and universal, and have connected me to all of humanity.   My intention is that this body of work is “of” this extraordinary time.
